So are you a right candidate? Not if:

  • Either of you don’t want to work on the issue. You both have to be willing to work.
  • There are issues of active alcohol and/or drug addition. This includes actual use or even one partner’s view on the other’s use.
  • If there is violence in the relationship – current violence, the threat of a future violence occurring, or a fear of violence.
  • One or both of you have an untreated mental illness.
  • There is an affair (current or undisclosed).
  • You have a major secret you don’t want to reveal (as secrets predict less success in couples counseling)

  • Are motivated towards solutions instead of the problem.
  • Want to take control back from your problems.
  • Know that changing a problem will only happen when you make actual changes.
  • Want to reconnect again.
